Driscoll Goes Word of Faith?

Mark Driscoll was taken on stage over the weekend by Word-of-Faith and Prosperity Gospel teacher, Robert Morris. Driscoll shared some stories about his family’s struggles that, if true, are heartbreaking. More concerning, Morris clearly has been providing counsel to Driscoll during this time (even regarding his resignation from Mars Hill) and – in our opinion … Read more

The Gospel Coalition: Advances Russell Moore-Flees from Gospel

The Gospel Coalition, a network of evangelical churches founded by D.A. Carson, and Tim Keller, has been in a downward slide since it’s inception. While the original intent of the coalition seemed well, the accountability within the organization has been less than stellar. In other words, the members of the council of the TGC hold eachother to such a high regard, that any criticism of it’s members is looked at as malice. Besides Tim Keller, a well known evolutionist, who does not hold to the absolute authority of Scripture, TGC has aligned itself with many liberal members over the years. Members, such as Mark Driscoll, and James MacDonald, whose association with the organization has backfired, yet TGC has managed to stay alive and well.

Bizarre Turn: Steven Anderson Now Embraces Calvinists

Earlier today, we discovered that arch-Calvinist, Mark Driscoll, recently said that the “Calvinism is garbage.” And now, we discover that arch-anti-Calvinist, Steven Anderson, embraces Calvinists as Christian brothers-in-Christ. It’s a crazy world we live in, and the theological poles seem to be shifting. Anderson, the fiery Independent Fundamental Baptist preacher who we’ve written about here … Read more

Who’s Who of Movers and Shakers in JD Greear’s World of Evangelicalism

In a recent episode of Ask Me Anything, a regular featured segment on Greear’s personal website, he was asked to name those who have most influenced his ministry. The list of names is quite telling, as he admits that Tim Keller, Mark Driscoll, and Rob Bell were instrumental in the early formation of his theology. Founding member of The Gospel Coalition and signer … Read more

SBC President Cancels Church for Christmas, Charges $5 for Good Friday Service

Today is Good Friday, the anniversary of Jesus’ death on the cross. Given the significance of this day, as well as the general interest that surrounds Easter Weekend, many churches choose to hold special “Good Friday” evening worship services. One such church is Summit Church, a multi-campus organization based in North Carolina. Summit is led … Read more

“Lamborghini Pastor” Claims Criticism Making Him a Suicide Risk, TD Jakes Exorcizes his “Suicide Spirit”

John Gray is the high-rolling pastor who’s heavily associated with Joel Osteen and Oprah, who made headlines in recent weeks for bizarre behavior. First, he told church members to come up and pilfer the offering plates. Second, he gave his wife a Lamborgini. Third, he confessed to having cheated on his wife, with the car … Read more

James MacDonald Finds Cover in Charismaticism Amidst Controversy

Like his friend and fellow scandalized pastor, Mark Driscoll, James MacDonald is largely unwelcome anywhere in evangelicalism except for the dark, seedy corners of charismaticism. Charismatics, modern practitioners of the ancient heresy of Montanism (also known as the “New Prophecy Heresy”), deny the sufficiency of Scripture by insisting that God continues to speak outside the … Read more

Harvest Bible Chapel: Mars Hill Church 2.0?

[Warren Throckmorton] From where I sit in small town PA (usually at a fast food place with good WiFi), it appears that there are some similarities between the last couple of years at Mars Hill Church and the current situation at Harvest Bible Chapel. Elders and Leadership Style At MHC, trouble had been brewing for … Read more

Together with Matt Chandler

Over two years ago, I wrote a piece here at Pulpit & Pen entitled “Resetting the Evangelical Mindset on Nabeel Qureshi.” Qureshi was, at the time, a darling of the Christian apologetics community and an up-and-coming speaker with Ravi Zacharias International Ministries.  I expressed concern that the popular and well-respected apologist was participating in an event, Together 2016, with … Read more

What You Need to Know About the Dallas Statement on Social Justice

I don’t think people adequately understand the significance of The Dallas Statement (as I call it) and its reception. Let me put some thoughts down here and explain exactly what has happened and what is happening. As someone who has been covering the mission drift of the Young, Restless and Reformed (YRR) into social progressivism … Read more

Ed Stetzer Attacks John MacArthur Over Social Justice

It’s hard to find a man who’s been more consistently wrong on important issues pertinent to evangelicalism than Ed Stetzer. Stetzer was an avid defender and compatriot of Mark Driscoll, before he was publicly disgraced and Mars Hill church collapsed like a pile of sand. Stetzer was a defender and compatriot of the Emergent Church, … Read more
