The Gospel

  1. God’s Holiness and Sovereignty: The gospel begins with the understanding that God is holy, righteous, and sovereign over all creation. According to the Bible, God created the world and everything in it, including humanity, to glorify Himself and enjoy a relationship with Him. (Genesis 1:1, Psalm 19:1, Isaiah 43:7).
  2. Human Sinfulness: However, humanity rebelled against God’s commandments, leading to a separation between God and man due to sin. (Romans 3:23) states, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” This sinfulness results in both physical death and spiritual death, which is eternal separation from God. (Romans 6:23).
  3. Christ’s Redemption: In His mercy and love, God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to live a sinless life and die on the cross as a perfect sacrifice for our sins. Jesus’s death and resurrection provide the only means for reconciliation with God. (2 Corinthians 5:21) explains, “He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” This act of redemption is entirely a work of God’s grace, not based on human merit or works. (Ephesians 2:8-9).
  4. Response of Faith and Repentance: The appropriate response to the gospel is one of faith and repentance. Faith involves trusting in Jesus Christ alone for salvation, recognizing Him as Lord and Savior. Repentance involves a heartfelt turning away from sin and turning to God. (Acts 20:21) summarizes this response as “repenting toward God and having faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.”
  5. Assurance and Hope: For those who believe in Christ, there is the assurance of salvation and the hope of eternal life with God. (John 10:28) assures, “and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.” Believers are also called to live a life of holiness, service, and witness, empowered by the Holy Spirit, as they await the full realization of God’s kingdom.

After embracing the profound truths of the gospel and beginning your journey with Christ, it’s essential to become part of a Biblically solid church. Such a community provides you with spiritual nourishment, fellowship, and accountability (Hebrews 10:24-25). In a Biblically solid church, you’ll find sound Biblical teaching (Acts 2:42), a commitment to the gospel, and a loving community devoted to living out the teachings of Christ (John 13:34-35). This fellowship will support you in prayer, help you understand the Bible more deeply, and equip you to live a life that honors God (Ephesians 4:11-16). Remember, Christianity is not meant to be lived in isolation but in community with other believers who can encourage, teach, and walk alongside you in your faith journey (1 Thessalonians 5:11). To find a church near you, look for one that faithfully adheres to the Scriptures, values the preaching of the Bible, and demonstrates a genuine love for God and neighbor.
