Todd Bentley is raising people from the dead?

Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming; that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders, and with all the deception … Read more

Why God Has (Likely) Called You to Be a Long-Term Pastor

There I was, 19 years old. One of “my youth” just had their custodial (grand)parent pass away. I walked into a house full of mourners. I tried to say some polite, pastoral things over the sound of conversation and joke-telling and crying. They politely nodded and listened, but not really. It was a cultural thing … Read more

War Room: A Review by Justin Peters

If you do not know the Kendrick brothers by name, you almost certainly know them by their films: Flywheel (2003),Facing the Giants (2006), Fireproof (2008), and Courageous (2011). Stephen, Alex, and Shannon Kendrick have just released their fifth faith-based film, War Room. War Room, starring popular Bible teachers Priscilla Shirer and Beth Moore, looks like it may well be the most successful of their films to date bringing in $11 million just on its opening weekend; more than triple it’s $3 million production budget.

Given the popularity of Christian themed films and the considerable buzz about this one in particular, my wife, Kathy, and I went to see War Room on the evening of September 3rd so that I could write a review. For those of you who read my review of Mark Burnett and Roma Downey’s movie, Son of God, you know that I am a bit skeptical of the Christian movie genre as a whole. Nonetheless, I do want to offer what I hope to be a fair review. This review will not touch on every single facet of the movie or even on every theme it presents, but I do hope to address what I believe to be the most important of them.

Rosebrough on Hillsong and Homosexuality

A small brouhaha stirred as reports circulated (not from Pulpit & Pen, by the way) that a homosexual couple had been engaged in the music ministry at Hillsong, New York. Upon the broad and general claim that “Lentz dealt with this already” (“Like he dealt with Justin Bieber’s unrepentant sin?” I thought), some claimed that … Read more

Pastor Woods Responds to Barnabas Piper’s Encouragement of Criminality

Civil Disobedience or Cerebral Damage? I’ve been wanting, wishing, waiting and praying for my white brothers & sisters in Christ to respond biblically and come out of their fear closets regarding the racial tensions that have been fanned and flamed by the liberal media and the race-baiters, whose agenda is to unequivocally create further chaos … Read more

Three Reasons I’m Encouraged by American Evangelicalism

Psalm 135:6 [ESV]  Whatever the Lord pleases, he does, in heaven and on earth, in the seas and all deeps. [dropcap]W[/dropcap]e live in a time where it seems as though American Evangelicalism is purposely doing whatever it can to undermine the authority of scripture and the sovereignty of God.  Seeker-sensitive mega churches and their pastors are … Read more

Happy Evangelical Environmentalism Day!

“Earth Day has never been a celebration of the beauty and bounty of this awesome terrestrial ball.  It’s always been an assault on man.” – Brian Sussman Who began the not-so-secular holiday known as “Earth Day”? Graf-Wellhausen Theory: Practical, Theoretical, Junk!

The Documentary Theory, also known as the Graf-Wellhausen theory, is a hypothesis that states that the Pentateuch, (the first five books of the Bible) were not inspired by God and written by Moses during his life, but were actually written by a conglomeration of at least four authors/editors centuries after Moses’ death. The hypothesis states … Read more

Stetzer Partners with Catholic Priest on Mental Illness

Mental illness is one of those safe issues that the evangelical intelligentsia have decided to focus upon in the last year or so. Add that to racial reconciliation and sex-trafficking, and you have the talking points. The secular press loves it. It’s not controversial. Nobody could be crucified over it. It’s a win-win. Thanks, in part … Read more

The Progressive Christian Fallacy – Sin Rationalizing

So I entered into conversation today with someone who refers to himself as a “gay Christian.” I asked him to explain what he thought Christianity was, and I got the typical response, “That’s very simple. Following the teachings of Christ, not other Christians.” Further into the conversation, he references himself as a “Progressive Christian,” and … Read more

The "Carnal Christian" and Reality

I often hear “Christians” say “God just wants us to enjoy life,” or “Christians don’t have to be so up tight all the time.”  Not incidentally, this often comes from those who regularly indulge themselves in worldly things.  But sometimes, even the most well meaning, well behaving Christians will express this.  But is this … Read more

Mistaking Gratification for God

As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one;      there is no one who understands;     there is no one who seeks God.  All have turned away,     they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good,     not even one.” Romans 3:10-12 There is a fundamental error in the mainstream evangelical … Read more
