Who out there, among the professing, has had the most deleterious effect on the health of the body of Christ in the year 2023? Using a number of criteria Pulpit & Pen has identified a list of nominees from a pool of eligible individuals (obvious charlatans and the theologically heterodox* were not included for consideration). In 2022, Johnny Hunt claimed the title of Pulpit & Pen’s “Worst Christian” of the year, beating out Adam Greenway, Rick Warren, and David French. This year, Hunt is not among the nominees, but there are a few familiar faces.
Who is the worst Christian of 2023? The Nominees are as follows:
Nominated for: Encouraging churches to accept same-sex couples into fellowship, hosting the Unconditional Conference
Nominated for: Defying the biblical doctrine of complimentarianism and apologizing for ever supporting it as his church was kicked out of the SBC.
Nominated for: Representing (poorly) Christianity in the atheist-produced documentary about Christian Nationalism “God and Country”.
Nominated for: Scandal-based coverage of popular evangelicalism without regard to broader theological matters and doctrine.
*Paedobaptists are not excluded from consideration, although the practice of baptizing infants is not biblical.
