Who out there, among the professing, has had the most deleterious effect on the health of the body of Christ in the year 2025? Using a number of criteria Pulpit & Pen has identified a list of nominees from a pool of eligible individuals (obvious charlatans and the theologically heterodox* were not included for consideration). In 2024, David Platt claimed the title of Pulpit & Pen’s “Worst Christian” of the year, beating out Steve Lawson, Francis Collins, and Johnny Hunt.
Who is the worst Christian of 2025? The Nominees are as follows:
Rachel Denhollander, attorney, author, and victim advocate
Nominated for: Perpetuating the narrative of abuse in the SBC; Advising the SBC on how to handle sexual abuse accusations while simultaneously serving as a legal advisor for a plaintiff against the SBC.
N.T. Wright, New Testament Scholar and Anglican Bishop
Nominated for: Teaching that Abortion is morally permissible
Jeff Iorg, President of the SBC Executive Committee
Nominated for: Fearmongering at the SBC in regard to lawsuits and female clergy, castigating churches who are reluctant to give to the Cooperative Program.
Kirk Cameron, Christian filmmaker and evangelist
Nominated for: Advocating for annihilationism
JD Greear, Pastor of the Summit Church, Worst Christian of the Year 2019
Nominated for: Attempted hostile takeover of Faith Baptist Church Knightdale
