Who is the worst Christian of 2025?
On the surface, this seems like a foolish or even pharisaical question. The fact of the matter is that there are none worthy to stand righteous before God except his perfect son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Every believer struggles with sin every day and will continue to do so until the Lord returns and raises us anew in glory. None of us are really better than another. Yet, we can still fairly ask and answer, “Who is the worst Christian of 2025” if we consider the question in terms of an individual’s influence on the visible church at large. Who out there, among the professing, has had the most deleterious effect on the health of the body of Christ in the year 2025? Using a number of criteria and identifying candidates from a pool of nominees (obvious charlatans and the theologically heterodox were not included for consideration), I have come up with one professing Christian who can fairly be considered “The Worst Christian of 2025.”
Who is the worst Christian of 2025? The Nominees are as follows:

Rachel Denhollander, attorney, author, and victim advocate
Nominated for: Perpetuating the narrative of abuse in the SBC; Advising the SBC on how to handle sexual abuse accusations while simultaneously serving as a legal advisor for a plaintiff against the SBC.

N.T. Wright, New Testament Scholar and Anglican Bishop
Nominated for: Teaching that Abortion is morally permissible

Jeff Iorg, President of the SBC Executive Committee
Nominated for: Fearmongering at the SBC in regard to lawsuits and female clergy, castigating churches who are reluctant to give to the Cooperative Program.

Kirk Cameron, Christian filmmaker and evangelist
Nominated for: Advocating for annihilationism

JD Greear, Pastor of the Summit Church, Worst Christian of the Year 2019
Nominated for: Attempted hostile takeover of Faith Baptist Church Knightdale
After careful consideration of the use of power, influence, responsibility, and the expression of theology, I hereby bestow the title of “Worst Christian of 2025” to JD Greear
JD,
You are the worst Christian of 2025. When I think of you and Summit Church, I am reminded of the story of King Hezekiah and the Babylonians. When Hezekiah showed the Babylonians the great wealth of Judah, they coveted it. They had to have it. It didn’t bother the pagans that it was set apart to God. The Babylonians attacked and took over Judah, adding its wealth to their own kingdom. Isn’t that what you and Summit Church tried to do to Faith Baptist Church in Knightdale, North Carolina?
It’s bad enough that you and your ilk (Bill Hybels, Andy Stanley, Steven Furtick, et al.) have perverted the biblical model of the local church into a multi-city, mutli-campus corporate hierarchy. You could have stopped the “church as a business” model there, but you couldn’t, could you? You had to try a hostile takeover. You and Summit saw the multi-million dollar property owned by FBC Knightdale and identified it as an ideal place to create yet another Summit Campus. I guess it didn’t matter to you that FBC Knightdale church members didn’t want to be absorbed into your summit-gray-colored Borg Collective. Summit and Knightdale’s own pastor conspired against that local church to fold FBC Knightdale into Summit. Love your neighbor? Thou Shalt not covet? Forget that. Summit wanted another location. How many is that? Twenty? Twenty or so campuses. You disgust me.
Summit could have just come into Knightdale and built a church nearby to compete for attendance with the churches that were already in town (like Walgreens does to CVS). That would have been less dishonorable than what y’all actually did. Thank God a documentary, aplty titled “JD Greear Unmaksed”, was produced to expose Summit’s attempt to expand by taking over another church. Your treachery might otherwise be unknown.
Your deleterious influence doesn’t stop with Summit Church and its dealings. Since 2022, you have been a member of the Board of Directors of Chick-fil-a. I can only imagine the company appointed you, a pastor, to that position because you are perceived more so as a businessman. Under your leadership, Chick-fil-a, a company previously known for espousing Christian values, has descended into wokeness. Having now embraced DEI, Chick-fil-a now congratulates employees for formalizing their sodomy.

For anyone familiar with your preaching on the LGBTQ issue, it’s hard not to see your influence at play. I recommend those not familiar with it read Shepherds for Sale by Megan Basham. The depth of your wokeness (or maybe it’s megachurch pragmatism) is beyond the scope of this post.
Sadly, this is your second time receiving the Worst Christian of the Year designation. You took home the goat trophy in 2019. Instead of being introspective or taking it to heart, you joked about it. Then you got worse.

JD, you were trained under Jack Hybels. He built a ministry and business empire in his time. Yet, history proved him to be a wicked man. I think you learned how you operate from watching him and I think history will remember you the same way.
JD Greear, you are the worst Christian of 2025.
*Paedobaptists are not excluded from consideration, although the practice of baptizing infants is not biblical.
