The ERLC, Joe Carter and Kim Davis: Wrap-up

For the past two days, I have had an interaction with Joe Carter, a colleague of Russell Moore at the SBC’s Ethics and Religious Liberties Commission (ERLC). The interaction revolved around the ERLC’s position regarding Rowan County, Kentucky Clerk of Court, Kim Davis, and her decision to not resign from her position while dissenting from issuing marriage licenses to homosexuals. Though our interaction was cordial and appreciated, I nonetheless still believe that the ERLC’s position is dangerous and contradictory. Our disagreement seems to revolve around three issues; Is she breaking the law, have accommodations been sought and/or denied, and should she resign from her position?

The Problem With the ERLC and Interfaith Coalitions

Ecumenical movements within the Church and those who propagate them should be considered with caution. One prominent propagator of such movements is the Ethics and Religious Liberties Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention (ERLC). The ERLC has been known to make questionable dives into the waters of faith-based alliances with organizations that hold to completely different sets of doctrinal beliefs than do Bible-believing Southern Baptists. It has rightly been criticized by concerned Christians for doing so. Unfortunately, critics of the ERLC and similar organizations are often accused of slandering people of faith, causing division, rejecting diversity, or even spreading hate. Questions, not unlike the trap questions asked of Jesus by Jewish leaders during the first century, are thrown at the critics of ecumenism in attempts to discredit their concerned stances. Many times, these questions are nothing more than straw-men tactics that shown no real concern the specific issue at hand. When responding to such questions, critics of unhealthy ecumenism should strive to respond with sound logic and thoughtful biblical exegesis. Consider the following admonishments from the Apostle Paul in light of notable activities of the ERLC.

Former ERLC Lobbyist Endorses Democrat Joe Biden for President

I don’t like to get political on this blog. I think doing so can distract from the mission. I want people to focus on Jesus and his church. This is a polemics blog and I don’t use it to polemicize political candidates on either side. Frankly, I think many Christians are more focused on the … Read more

ERLC Official Uses Platform to Attack SBC Whistleblowers

The assurances and claims from Albert Mohler and Danny Akin that their seminaries haven’t experienced “liberal drift” have been exposed as absurdly fraudulent, thanks largely to the work of SEBTS graduate, Jon Harris. Using video, writings, and personal testimonies of students and professors, Harris has led a string of whistleblowers to testify credibly to what … Read more

ERLC Tells Churches They Have Close if Government Demands It

The Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, a left-leaning Social Justice organization that masquerades as a Southern Baptist entity supposedly designed to advocate for religious liberty, is telling denominational churches to close down if the government demands it. Restricting churches from gathering to worship is a government power, according to Russell Moore, the Democrat president of … Read more

ERLC Leader Says Denying Trinity is Just a “Small Doctrinal Difference”

Russell Moore’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC) is stacked with the most vehement proponents of ‘woke’ social religion that they are now defending Steven Furtick by claiming that a belief in the Holy Trinity is only a “small doctrinal sliver of difference.” As Reformation Charlotte has previously reported, Susan Codone serves the ERLC leadership … Read more

Russell Moore Using ERLC Manchurian Blog to Attack SBC Executive Board

As Pulpit & Pen explained in the article, Russell Moore’s Supporters All Have One Thing in Common: They’re on the ERLC’s Teat, Russell Moore has been handing out Cooperative Program-funded treats to SBC bloggers for years, building an astroturf network of blogs to attack people at his bidding. By handing out appointments, positions, and speaking … Read more

Russell Moore Supporters All Have One Thing in Common: They’re On the ERLC’s Teat

A quick survey of social media and blogs strongly defending Russell Moore and the Southern Baptist Convention reveals that they all have one thing in common. They are on the teat of the SBC spoils system and are compensated by Russell Moore. Like baby pigs suckling on the mother sow, these seemingly run-of-the-mill supporters of … Read more

SBC Executive Committee Cans Pastor Conference Lineup, Investigates ERLC Liberalism

High Five

The SBC Executive Committee must have had an interesting couple of days, and they have shotgunned their Twitter feed with various seeming concessions ostensibly designed to placate infuriated conservatives. After SBC President, JD Greear, and SBC Executive Committee President, Ronnie Floyd, both insisted yesterday that the denomination isn’t “going liberal,” the Executive Committee announced that … Read more

ERLC Has Obama Strategist Lecture Christians On Politics…AGAIN!

On the day following outrage on the part of Southern Baptist leaders (JD Greear, Albert Mohler, and Ronnie Floyd) who insisted the SBC isn’t drifting left, the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC) again used an Obama campaign strategist and Democrat staffer to lecture evangelicals on being civil in politics. Just to recap, Obama – … Read more

ERLC Official Says to Vote Pro-Choice Democrat Over Trump

A contributor to the Southern Baptist’s lobbying arm is telling Christians in the WaPo that God wants them to vote pro-choice Democrat over Donald Trump in the next election. Southern Baptists own the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC), the political lobbying arm that is daily opposing President Trump and which is run by a … Read more

ERLC Promotes Gay Priest and Singleness on Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day commemorates Saint Valentine of Rome who performed weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry and ministered to Christians persecuted under the Roman Empire. Worldwide, the day is now set aside for couples to celebrate their love, relationship, and marriage. However, Hominterns deep inside the Evangelical Deep State have been extolling the virtue … Read more
