Pro-life Republican Defeats Pro-choice Dem in California Special Election

News Division

Republicans ran over the Democrats tonight in a special election that saw them reclaim a Calfornia House seat that theylost in the 2018 midterms. The special election was called after Katie Hill, a Democrat, resigned in fireworks and flames after her wayward behavior involving sexcapades and being part of a “throuple” came to light. Democrat Christy Smith, a state assemblywoman who was a strong pro-choice candidate, having been given a hearty recommendation and endorsement by NARAL, was defeated to Republican Mike Garcia, who decidedly was not.

Shannon Hovis, Director of NARAL Pro-Choice California, wrote in her endorsement of Smith “During Christy’s tenure in the California Assembly, she has proven herself to be a fierce advocate for reproductive freedom. The stakes are higher than ever, and we look forward to supporting Christy as she takes this fight to Congress.”

Smith returned the favor in this ghastly acceptance ” “I’m deeply grateful and honored to have earned the support of NARAL Pro-Choice America…I’m resolutely committed to ensuring that every woman in this country has complete control of her own body and healthcare decisions. I look forward to working together to ensuring a 100% pro-choice America.”

The victor, Mike Garcia, a formal Naval aviator with no previous political experience, ran on a pro-life platform, with his view best encapsulated in the video below.

The two will meet again in November, with the two candidates in the runoff also qualified for the general election, but the fact that he beat a democrat in California will likely draw tons of support and donations to his campaign.
