Together with Matt Chandler

Over two years ago, I wrote a piece here at Pulpit & Pen entitled “Resetting the Evangelical Mindset on Nabeel Qureshi.” Qureshi was, at the time, a darling of the Christian apologetics community and an up-and-coming speaker with Ravi Zacharias International Ministries.  I expressed concern that the popular and well-respected apologist was participating in an event, Together 2016, with … Read more

Together 2016 – Yes, It’s Still A Problem

The Together 2016 gathering on the National Mall July 16 had a grand ambition. According to its website, “Moments of historic change are often marked by historic gatherings.” While this can certainly be validated throughout the annals of history within social, cultural, and political arenas, it seems less so within the spiritual one. Indeed, the greatest … Read more

Together 2016 App locates “Gay Affirming” churches

Update: People who have recently updated or downloaded the app report that the “Find a Church” function is no longer available. Here is a link to a screenshot of the original app with the function. This was most likely removed due to the backlash. If you’re unaware of the big gathering this weekend in the … Read more

Together2016, Ann Voskamp Declare Scripture Insufficient

Pulpit & Pen recently confirmed and reported that the Pope of Rome will be joining Southern Baptist President, along with Hillsong United, Lecrae, and many other professing evangelical Christians in Washington D.C. for an ecumenical fornication-fest. The event, dubbed Together 2016, is estimated to host over 1 million attendees. Recently, a tweet appeared from Together2016’s … Read more

1926-2020: J.I. Packer No Longer ‘Together’ With Catholics

J.I. Packer, an influential theologian, died at the age of 93 earlier today. The British theologian influenced many, but Packer received upon his record the dark, ugly blot of having signed the apostate document, Evangelicals and Catholics Together (EIT), in 1994. Thankfully as of today, Packer is no longer together with Catholics. Born in 1926 … Read more

Matthew West & Together 2016: An Anthem For Faux Unity?

Unity.  Within the church – and I mean the self-proclaimed “church”, one distinguished by the remarkable volume of tares among the wheat in pews, in pulpits, and, frequently, in the spotlight – the word unity has become nothing less than a discernment-free appeal for moral and social tolerance.  When you hear someone plead for unity, … Read more

God’s Warning? “Heat” Shuts Down Apostate ‘Together 2016’ Event

The heavily marketed, highly touted, and Scripture-denying “Together 2016” event was held on the National Mall in Washington, DC on Saturday, July 16. Thousands gathered on the mall and watched by live stream for the purported purpose to pray for Jesus to “reset” the country and their lives. The stream of celebrity evangelical “leaders,” pastors … Read more

Together Again: Beth Moore & Christine Caine – Outraging the Spirit of Grace?

“And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray.”   Matthew 24:11 She promotes contemplative prayer. She teaches the Bible by narcigetical eisegetics. She gets revelations. As Elizabeth Prata points out, at The End Time blog, Jesus calls her “honey, babe, kiddo and other terms of intimate endearment.” Malcontent with these mere heresies, now, it … Read more

Christians, You Have Nobody to Blame But Yourselves

Do you really expect the lost to have any semblance of Godly compassion towards human life? They can’t, they’re lost. This isn’t to say that all non-Christians are murderers, however, it is to say that only Christians believe that the unborn are human beings, made in the image of God, knit together by Him in their mother’s womb (Psalm 139:13). And it is only upon this foundation that we can objectively argue that life is sacred, to be preserved, respected, and protected. All other arguments are subjective.

Rejoicing in Christ in a fallen world.

In the wake of recent happenings in the US that greatly affect Christians, some believers may be wondering what this world is coming to. Much of this has come as a shock to many, especially the “cultural Christian” segment, or the new religious right. After the supreme court ruling declaring it illegal for states to ban same-sex marriage, many emotions including disappointment, shock, and anger and even hatred spread throughout the dissenting population. While grieving over sin is both healthy, and righteous (Luke 6:25), we need to remember one thing–God is sovereign over all.

So while we can be disappointed, we can have opinions, we can talk, pray and express our thoughts and feelings, let’s not forget who we represent, and who we are to rejoice in–Jesus Christ.

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. – Romans 8:28

Willy Rice's Sob Story: Ben Carson Sacrificed for the Sake of Unity

If you’ve been following Southern Baptist news, you know about the uproar that was cast by the SBC inviting Seventh Day Adventist, Dr. Ben Carson, to speak at the 2015 Pastor’s Conference. Aside from the serious theological differences that sets Southern Baptists apart from Seventh Day Adventists, it was also widely seen as an endorsement of a political candidate. In the wake of this massive outcry, a follow-up opinion was written at SBC Voices blog by Dave Matthews, basically stating that he disagreed with decision to invite Carson, but since it’s already done, for the sake of avoiding bad press, we should just shut up about it, accept it, and have lunch together.

From Bad to Jonathan Howe: Baptist Press Covers for New Baptist CEO.

Last week, the Southern Baptist Convention suffered the embarrassment of learning that the interim CEO of its Executive Committee, Willie McLaurin, was a fraud. This week, Southern Baptists learned that McLaurin’s replacment belongs to a church affiliated with the theologically liberal Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF). The church is Woodmont Baptist in Nashville. The replacment is … Read more
