The family of John Powell, the beloved pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church in New Caney, Texas who was killed several days ago when he was struck by a semi-truck on the side of the road, will receive at least $275,000, and more as the donations continue to roll in.
According to reports, “Officers said Powell saw a semi-truck coming toward the other man who stopped on the highway to help, and Powell pushed the other man out of the way to save him.”
Powell left behind his wife Katherine, and their children Gunner, Bennett, Ada Kate, and Reese.
The GoFundMe account, set up for the family by friend Andrew Walker, is at $271,023 at the time of this writing with 2600 people donating. The top donation being $10,000 by an anonymous saint and over 55 donations of $1000 or more.
An update to the Godundme reads:
Update #1: For donor transparency, I am setting up Katherine as the beneficiary of this Go Fund Me, which will allow her to withdraw funds directly at a time of her choosing.
We will update this post accordingly.
