A Time to Kill? Jeff Durbin Forgets He is a Theonomist

“So you like my daughter, do ya now?”  Casey Beathard, Cleaning This Gun As Len Pettis has pointed out, host of Aplologia Radio and Theonomist Jeff Durbin is fond of saying, “You don’t live that way,” when he takes atheists to task for the inconsistency of their worldview.  According to Jeff Durbin, the atheistic worldview … Read more

I’m Praying You Don’t Bilk Me, Bro!

Owner of ‘Pay To Pray’ Website Ordered To Return $7.8M To Consumers   That’s a headline in the news, folks.  A headline.  Before you leap to any unfounded, though possibly justifiable, conclusions, let me point out that LifeWay was not a co-conspirator in this flagrant act of charlantanry! A Seattle man was running an … Read more

Five Reasons to Not Observe Lent

“The truly wise man is he who always believes the Bible against the opinion of any man.”  – R.A. Torrey No more than 24 hours into the 2015 Lenten season and a plethora of Evangelical #lent posts began appearing in the social media world.  The Lenten season and Evangelical’s strange desire to participate, is as confounding as it … Read more

HuffPo Excited About "Moderate," Russell Moore

I’ve used the Huffington Post as an example of the type of media publication Russell Moore is trying to impress. I have mentioned dozens, and probably hundreds of times on the Pulpit & Pen Program, that one day we’ll see the Huffington Post, the arch-uber-mega-hyper-liberal publication founded by Arianna Huffington (pictured above), promote the socially … Read more

Left-Leaning Southern Baptist Insider Defends Russell Moore

“Every gang-banger will produce ten people who say they were someplace else while all of this happened.” –Carl Winslow, Family Matters, Born to Mild, Season 3, Episode 9 Religion News Service correspondent, Jonathan Merritt, published an article on his Faith and Culture blog this week entitled “Does Russell Moore really represent Southern Baptists.”  Merritt published his piece … Read more

Blake Reynolds, Clayton Jennings, and Capturing Weak Women

Out there in evangelical-land there’s a group of young men gaining traction and attention – from TBN, book publishers, revival promoters, and a whole lot of females. The whole thing is giving me the heebie jeebies. A few pulpiteers in the Bunker have posted occasional Facebook videos from these fellas, and not only are they … Read more

Correcting Adam Harwood on Political Endorsement

…Herod had seized John and bound him and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, because John had been saying to him, “It is not lawful for you to have her….” He sent and had John beheaded in the prison, and his head was brought on a platter… (Matthew … Read more

Rosebrough on Hillsong and Homosexuality

A small brouhaha stirred as reports circulated (not from Pulpit & Pen, by the way) that a homosexual couple had been engaged in the music ministry at Hillsong, New York. Upon the broad and general claim that “Lentz dealt with this already” (“Like he dealt with Justin Bieber’s unrepentant sin?” I thought), some claimed that … Read more

Protecting Your Church Against Mass Violence

It’s another sad day in America. A church was shot up, with nine dead. The victims were black and the shooter was white. Not surprisingly, the alleged perpetrator was a young man on psychotropic drugs. He fled. He was caught. Blood runs in the church. Also not surprisingly, President Obama is using the tragedy to … Read more

A Rational Response to the Criticism of Village Church

“That’s OK.” – Random lost person, when granting their form of forgiveness PREFACE So you think pedophilia is OK? So you think molesting your sisters is OK? So you think incest is OK? So you think child pornography is OK? Those are the questions we’ve received this week after Cameron’s post, The Gospel is for … Read more

Heaven Tourism: The Saga Continues

In the wake of Alex Malarkey’s courageous confession that he lied about his trip to Heaven as a young boy in his book, The Boy Who Came Back From Heaven, it appeared as the whole Heaven Tourism issue was beginning to lose ground. The massive outcry by #The15 against Lifeway bookstores, in conjunction with Alex’s recantation of his story, prompted Lifeway to remove all Heaven Tourism books from the stores shelves, though they won’t admit that’s why they did it. The recantation of Alex’s story also caused many to doubt Colton Burpo’s story as well, regarding his story of visiting Heaven in his book and upcoming movie Heaven is for Real. Burpo then felt he needed to come out and make a statement–one where he unabashedly claimed that he stands by his story. Just when it seems like all of this doubt being cast upon the subject was causing people to rethink their beliefs on these fictional stories, the publicity of a new miracle tale is refueling the old fire.

Brother’s Keeper

Editor’s Note. This article was originally written by Fred Butler and posted at Hip and Thigh and is being reposted here with permission. What I am about to state here is raw and blunt. I am placing myself at great risk of receiving severe wedgies from a variety of antagonists. Friends may reprove me for stirring … Read more
