Kanye West’s appearance at Osteen’s Lakewood ‘Church’ over the weekend was a trainwreck. It was shameful, wrong-headed, and a horrible idea. It also gives people a reason to doubt his conversion, which many were looking for. But it’s not all bad news. The American Bible Society reports that after his latest album, Jesus is King, came out, more than ten thousand of his fans requested a Bible.
The American Bible Society told Christian Headlines over the weekend that more than 10,000 free Bibles have been given away as part of a “Bibles for Kanye Fans.” They were only supposed to give away a thousand but had ten times that request.
Reportedly, the American Bible Society got the idea for the giveaway, Christian Headlines says, after noticing a spike in Google searches for information about Christianity the week the album was released.
John Farquhar Plake – the director of “intelligence” for the Bible society, said, “Kanye West’s album has had an immediate effect on the current news cycle. ‘Jesus is King’ was a trending internet search last week with over 1 million queries on Google alone.”
They then decided to give away Bibles to Kanye fans, and the number of his fans requesting the Good Book was overwhelming.
Kanye fans who want a free Bible can get one shipped to their address by filling out a form at abs.bible/kanye. The giveaway is scheduled to end Nov. 22.
If you’re disappointed by Kanye’s behavior over the weekend (as you should be), rest assured, God has a plan somewhere in it.
