Video sharing platform TikTok has banned pro-life group Live Action from releasing videos for violating “Community Guidelines” then flip flopped their position after stirring up outrage.
Live Action president Lila Rose, claims TikTok banned them for this video:
Live Action says it appealed the violation and received a statement that the account “was banned due to multiple Community Guidelines violations.” TikTok did not elaborate as to which videos violated guidelines.
Rose showed an example of the type of videos TikTok does not ban in a tweet.
Rose released a statement saying:
“Live Action’s videos shared baby photos and videos and highlighted the illogic of the pro-abortion movement. At the same time, TikTok allows pro-abortion accounts and videos to remain on the platform, videos like this that simulate brutal harm to preborn or born infants. Live Action appealed TikTok’s decision to remove one of our videos and within a half hour our account was completely removed on the platform. No more account, no more videos. This is blatant viewpoint discrimination and an egregious attempt to silence pro-life voices. TikTok should reinstate our account in full and allow all voices on the platform.”
TikTok’s users are mostly teenagers that use the platform to share funny videos. This is not the first time TikTok has run into allegations of being biased.
Last year, the platform temporarily suspended 17-year-old Feroza Aziz over a video discussing the Chinese government’s persecution of the country’s Uighur Muslim population. TikTok eventually re-instated her account and claimed she had once been banned for making a tasteless joke about Osama Bin Laden.
UPDATE: TikTok has now re-instated Live Action’s account and says the initial ban was a “result of human error.”
