[Micaiah Bolger | LifeNews] The pressure on women to have abortions is very real and frequent, though those who claim to fight for “choice” seldom discuss it.
Often the pressure comes from partners or family members. But as one woman recently shared in an online forum, it also can come from friends – and for very selfish, superficial reasons.
The Sun reports a woman recently shared how her best friend “Kate” urged her to abort her unborn daughter because she wanted a “kid-free wedding.”
“About a year before the wedding, I found out I was pregnant,” the woman wrote on a Facebook page about weddings.
She said she was elated because she had been told that she would not be able to have children. And she expected her best friend to be happy for her, too. Kate was not.
“She immediately told me that I was going to be so stressed trying to get my bridesmaid dress fitting on my own since I’d have to do it after everyone already had theirs (I was due in April, wedding was in June),” the woman wrote.
“She reminded me that it was a kid-free wedding, and then after thoroughly explaining how difficult her wedding would be for me, she said (verbatim) ‘so don’t you think it might be better for you to have an abortion?’”
The woman said Kate’s words shocked her and she asked if she was serious.
“She told me I was ruining my life and then called her mom to tell me to have an abortion,” the woman continued. “Her mom texted me and said congratulations and said she was always there to support me no matter what I chose and to call her if I needed guidance.”
