Who is the worst Christian of 2023?

On the surface, this seems like a foolish or even pharisaical question. The fact of the matter is that there are none worthy to stand righteous before God except his perfect son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Every believer struggles with sin every day and will continue to do so until the Lord returns and raises us anew in glory. None of us are really better than another. Yet, we can still fairly ask and answer, “Who is the worst Christian of 2023” if we consider the question in terms of an individual’s influence on the visible church at large. Who out there, among the professing, has had the most deleterious effect on the health of the body of Christ in the year 2023? Using a number of criteria and identifying candidates from a pool of nominees (obvious charlatans and the theologically heterodox were not included for consideration), I have come up with one professing Christian who can fairly be considered “The Worst Christian of 2023.”

After careful consideration of the use of power, influence, responsibility, and the expression of theology, I hereby bestow the title of “Worst Christian of 2023” to Andy Stanley.

Mr. Stanley,

You are the worst Christian of 2023.

In a year where Rick Warrren, perhaps the most arrogant and influential Christian author in the world, tried to turn the largest protestant denomination in the USA towards egalitarianism, you won Worst Christian of the Year.  In a year where Russell Moore oversaw Christianity Today’s further descent into wokeness and gender confusion, you won Worst Christian of the Year.  You are that abominable.  If you are truly saved, I’ll eat my shoe.

You’ve been dangerous for years, promoting your brand of “church that unchurched people love to attend” but you’ve hardly been one to drive a moral revolution.  No sooner than your father Charles was dead in the ground, did you came out in favor of the inclusion of same-sex couples in the ministry of the local church.  It’s like you want people to go to Hell.  How dare you stand before people who been turned over by God to shameful, wicked, unnatural desires, people in need of repentance and God’s forgiveness, and include them in the covenant community.  For any pastor to do that is damnable, but what’s worse about your doing it is your level of influence.  For years you’ve been writing books and doing seminars about how to do church like North Point does church.  Now, your unbiblical methodology includes a total rejection for God’s design for man and woman.  Your turn on sexuality happens to conveniently coincide with society’s turn.  It leaves me to wonder if there is a genuine bone in your body.  Either way, if you won’t repent, be dammed Andy Stanley.  May your money, your synagogue of Satan, and your influence perish in Hell with you, you demonic false teacher.
