Nominees: The Worst Christian of 2022

Who out there, among the professing, has had the most deleterious effect on the health of the body of Christ in the year 2022? Using a number of criteria Pulpit & Pen has identified a list of nominees from a pool of eligible individuals (obvious charlatans and the theologically heterodox* were not included for consideration).  In 2021, Beth Moore claimed the title of Pulpit & Pen’s “Worst Christian” of the year, beating out Ed Litton, Russell Moore, James Merritt, and Dhati Lewis.  This year, Moore is not among the nominees, instead there a few new faces. 

Who is the worst Christian of 2022? The Nominees are as follows:

Adam Greenway, Former President of President of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary

Nominated for: Irresponsible financial stewardship and questionable personel decisions that have endangered the operation of SWBTS.
Ric Warren, Best-selling author and former pastor of Saddleback Church

Nominated for: Defying the biblical doctrine of complimentarianism at the Southern Baptist Convention and arrogantly bragging on the size of his ministry in defense of that action.
Johnny Hunt, Former pastor of First Baptist Church of Woodstock, former President of the Southern Baptist Convention, former Vice President of Evangelism at the North American Mission Board

Nominated for: Disqualifying himself for the pastoral ministry by having a sexual encounter with another pastor’s wife, covering up the incident, staying in the ministry afterward, and attempting a “restored” return to ministry after being suspended from the pastorate.
David French, evangelical pundit and author

Nominated for: Support of legalizing “same-sex “marriage.

*Paedobaptists are not excluded from consideration, although the practice of baptizing infants is not biblical.
