Who out there, among the professing, has had the most deleterious effect on the health of the body of Christ in the year 2021? Using a number of criteria Pulpit & Pen has identified a list of nominees from a pool of eligible individuals (obvious charlatans and the theologically heterodox* were not included for consideration). In 2020, Albert Mohler claimed the title of Pulpit & Pen’s “Worst Christian” of the year, beating out JD Greear, Ravi Zacharais, Kevin Ezell, Tim Keller, and Jimmy Scroggins. This year, Mohler is not among the nominees, instead there are several new faces.
Who is the worst Christian of 2021? The Nominees are as follows:
Beth Moore, President of Living Proof Ministries
Nominated for: Formally abandoning Baptist beliefs and complementarianism after building a women’s ministry career (and a fortune) in the SBC affirming and teaching Baptist beliefs.
Ed Litton, President of the Southern Baptist Convention and Pastor of Redemption Church
Nominated for: Sermon Plagiarism
Russell Moore, Former President of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, Christianity Today’s Chair of Public Theology
Nominated for: Joining a non-Baptist Church after serving as an SBC entity head for years, smear campaign against SBC Presidential Nominee Mike Stone
James Merritt, Former President of the Southern Baptist Convention, Founding Pastor of Cross Pointe Church
Nominated for: Advocating for the progressive preaching of his homosexual son Jonathan, years of pastoral malpractice, helping to prevent SBC condemnation of Critical Race Theory
Dhati Lewis, Outgoing President of (NAMB) Send Network, Pastor of Blueprint Church
Nominated for: Mixing the social gospel into church planting.
Judd Saul, Filmmaker, Director of Enemies Within and Enemies Within the Church
Nominated for: Not completing Enemies Within the Church fast enough so that Christians could be more quickly warned about wokeism in the church. (Judd won’t win, this is a sarcastic nomination intended to promote his film!)
*Paedobaptists are not excluded from consideration, although the practice of baptizing infants is not biblical.
