In a DoublePlusGood Newspeak fashion, Founders Ministries contributing author, Chris Bolt, has come up with a new word to describe Southern Baptists who support Critical Theory, lady pastors, and same-sex attraction.
He now refers to them as “progressive conservatives.”
We kid you not. Look below.
As we pointed out yesterday in the post, Southern Baptist Leaders Tell Us to Eat Cake, many believe a simplified (and simpleton) notion that if Southern Baptist leaders do it or teach it, it must be conservative by virtue of it being done or taught by Southern Baptist leaders. This seems to be Bolt’s thinking (if you can call it that).

It’s possible that the SBC elite considers the Southern Baptist Convention and conservatism to be so synonymous that something is made conservative by the virtue of the SBC doing it.
Bolt, who is a huge defender of animal rights activist and feminist professor, Karen Swallow Prior (the one who famously said that “abortion isn’t murder“) regularly doth protesteth too much in vouching for his own conservative bona fides. It seems that in Bolt’s thinking, a hat-tip toward inerrancy and some vague Reformedish soteriology is the be-all end-all of conservatism.
Bolt’s use of the term “progressive conservatism” is reminiscent of the term Dave Miller at SBC Voices recently created to describe egalitarianism, “differently complementarian.”
These terms are doubleplusgood contradictions of the oldspeak we were all used to before Minitruth took over the speakwrite machines.
Thankfully, more than a handful of Twitter users pointed out to Bolt that “progressive” and “conservative” are contradictions and that he is a moron full of oxy.
