SEBTS Secretly Scrubs Website of Critical Race Theory

News Division

Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, which is the ‘woke’ epicenter of Southern Baptist life, just secretly scrubbed its website of material explicitly promoting Critical Race Theory (CRT). After widespread criticism that the SBC adopted a resolution in favor of CRT, written about in publications like Pulpit & Pen and The Federalist, it seems that SEBTS has decided to reel back a bit on their overt promotion of the Marxist ideology, deciding instead to take it underground.

Thankfully, material flushed down the proverbial ‘memory hole’ in 2019 is more easily retrievable than in Orwell’s 1984. The Wayback Machine and screenshots have allowed us to document the scrubbing.

The chief promoter of CRT at SEBTS, and therefore, Southern Baptist life, is the Social Justice institution at the seminary known as the Department of Kingdom Diversity. Most egregiously, the institution has been promoting the work of 21st century heretic and racial incendiary, James Cone, who is the father of Black Liberation Theology.

SEBTS has repeatedly been raked through the coals by conservative Southern Baptists. Pastor Tom Buck asked a particularly stirring question prior to the SBC’s vote on Critical Race Theory and SEBTS has been repeatedly bull-dogged by SEBTS graduate, Jon Harris, who has used his social media platforms to expose the leftist political agenda at the seminary. Tom Ascol, founder and director of Founders Ministries has also been outspoken in his opposition to the ideology. In response, Danny Akin – SEBTS president – has been busy in social media sharing quotations and material that directly contradicts the teaching agenda at his seminary, putting forward double-minded, contradictory, and irreconcilable positions.

Social Justice contras noticed that SEBTS scrubbed their website of material promoting CRT this morning. There is, however, no indication whatsoever that SEBTS is rethinking their promotion of the ideology or now oppose it.

Previously, the Department of Kingdom Diversity had available lectures done to venerate Cone and promote Critical Race Theory.

These are no longer available.

A whole treasure-trove of Critical Race Theory material is now completely gone from the SEBTS website, without a single word of explanation from Danny Akin or seminary leaders. Podcasts, articles, and other CRT material is now completely gone.

A WORD OF CAUTION

Critical Race Theorists and Cultural Marxists are extremely, extremely embedded in Southern Baptist institutions like SEBTS, SBTS, and the ERLC. It is doubtful – even if leaders like Mohler and Akin did a complete turn on Social Justice – that leadership could successfully thrust leftist political operators from their institutions.

It does not seem that SEBTS or SBC leadership is capable or willing to publicly repudiate the ideologies that it seems they only now are beginning to understand, even if they’re careful to scrub their websites or walk back their rhetoric in social media.

The last word of caution is for the Social Justice contras, who may view such a move by SEBTS to be a concession. Unless they publicly repudiate what it is they’ve publicly promoted, SEBTS is just taking their ideology away from public scrutiny, and will continue to teach the subversive political doctrines to newer generations of impressionable students.
