An SBC Professor: has declared that evangelicalism is ‘closely connected’ to white supremacy and that evangelical movement benefited from racism.
The president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary said Critical Race Theory and Intersectionality result in Identity Politics and that identity politics is antithetical to the Gospel and devastating for the church. However, one of Albert Mohler’s professors at Southern brazenly promoted Critical Race Theory as a way that evangelicals should deal with racism.
First, let’s refresh our memories about what Dr. Mohler said of Critical Race Theory.
Mohler said, “The main consequence of critical race theory and intersectionality is identity politics, and identity politics can only rightly be described, as antithetical to the gospel of Jesus Christ. We have to see identity politics as disastrous for the culture and nothing less than devastating for the church of the Lord Jesus Christ.”
Also, Dr. Mohler said this: “Both critical race theory and intersectionality are a part of the continuing transformative Marxism, that is now so dominant in higher education and increasingly in policy.”
With that in mind, now let’s see what one of his New Testament professors said about Critical Race Theory. In an interview posted at The Gospel Coalition, Jarvis Williams talks about important books. On the list, are a few promoting Critical Race Theory.
According to TGC,
Q: “What books have most shaped your understanding of racial justice?
A: “So many. A few are: Michael Emerson’s Divided by Faith; Christena Cleveland’s Disunity in Christ; Richard Delgado’s Critical Race Theory: An Introduction; Benjamin Isaac’s The Invention of Racism in Classical Antiquity; Love L. Sechrest’s A Former Jew: Paul and the Dialectics of Race; and W. E. B. Dubois’s The Souls of Black Folks.”
Q: “Which book do you wish every evangelical Christian would read and why?
A: “Richard Delgado’s Critical Race Theory: An Introduction. A necessary book because evangelicals still tend to be decades behind on critical race discussions.
“Michael Emerson’s Divided by Faith. This book shows how evangelical movement and white supremacy are closely connected. Evangelicals tend to ignore racial discussions because evangelicalism has historically benefited from racism. This book will help evangelicals see this and hopefully move them to repent.
“Kevin Jones and Jarvis J. Williams’s Removing the Stain of Racism from the SBC: Diverse African American and White Perspectives. This book offers a critique of and some solutions to racism in the SBC, the world’s largest Protestant evangelical denomination.”
Keep in mind that Dr. Mohler publicly declared Critical Race Theory as a problem that leads to identity politics.
Also, keep in mind that Dr. Mohler has another employee at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary who is an admitted racist who struggles with white supremacy. Dr. Mohler’s Provost admitted on video that he struggles with issues of white supremacy. These videos and articles were deleted at Dr. Mohler’s order.
So, Dr. Mohler, why are your employees promoting these devastating theories? Why are your employees claiming evangelicalism is closely connected to white supremacy? Are these your views? Or have you allowed progressive identity politics to run amok at your seminary?

We would remind you that Dr. Mohler said at the 2019 ShepCon Q&A that “who I platforms speaks for where I stand on these issues.”
As we have previously reported, Dr. Mohler is telling people in private phone conversations that he will not allow anyone at SBTS to remain on staff if they support or teach Critical Race Theory.
