One popular Social Justice advocate in American evangelicalism, Ekemini Uwan, is claiming that fires near the Amazon jungle are “environmental racism.” Uwan is an aggressive Critical Race Theorist who regularly seeks to cause racial disunity and castigate people of other ethnicities.
It’s one thing to see racism behind every corner and under every rock, but claiming that wildfires are racist might just take the cake.
In reality, the Amazon rain forest isn’t really burning. Outskirts of the Amazon, which have been thankfully domesticated to be farmed and ranched for food production (because people are more important than plants or animals), have been set ablaze rather than the jungle itself.
God gave man the responsibility of taming, domesticating, and civilizing every ounce of the Earth in what Christians call the Dominion Mandate. All of the Earth’s resources, from lumber to minerals to animals to petroleum are put there to benefit mankind. The Amazon is one of those resources, but because of romantic notions of modern environmentalism, those resources have been vastly under-exploited. And now, those resources are being burned up because they’ve not been properly managed.
“Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. 2 The fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth and upon every bird of the heavens, upon everything that creeps on the ground and all the fish of the sea. Into your hand they are delivered. 3 Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything (Genesis 9:1-3).
Fires have been torching the Amazon for more than three weeks. French president, Macron, called it an “international crisis.” G7 countries have been fighting with the Brazilian president over whether or not he would receive funds designated to saving the forest. Brazil’s version of NASA, their INPE, have said they’ve observed more than 70 thousand fires in the Amazon from space just this year, which is an increase of more than 84% from last year.
Leftists and environmentalists around the world have lamented in sackcloth and ashes that the Amazon is burning. Many are doing so under the auspices of fraudulent pseudo-science taught in western textbooks, claiming falsely that the Amazon is responsible for 20% of the Earth’s oxygen and holds the secrets to Earth’s ecological stability. In reality, human beings could destroy every living creature on the planet and not put a dent in the planet’s oxygen supply.
Democrats, who aren’t terribly keen on science like human anatomy when it comes to transgenderism or biology when it comes to abortion, are claiming the Amazon fires are a crisis for the entire planet. Democratic presidential candidate, Kamala Harris, made the claim in a tweet.
Even American evangelical leftists and Social Justice Warriors are in on the fun. Ekemini Uwan, who is promoted by The Gospel Coalition’s Thabiti Anyabwile and Jackie Hill Perry, claimed that the burning of the Amazon rainforest was “environmental racism”
Ekemini Uwan claims to be a “public theologian” (that’s the same term used by Nadia Bolz-Weber) who received her Master of Divinity degree from Westminster Theological Seminary (Philadelphia). Uwan writes for The Witness: A Black Christian Collective, a prominent race-baiting Social Justice organization within evangelicalism.
According to this evangelical Social Justice Warrior, “Whiteness is wickedness.” And apparently, it somehow sets fires in the Amazon.
The term, “environmental racism” was invented by Benjamin Chavis, a member of the United Church of Christ (UCC) Commission for Racial Justice. The term was in reference to a scandal involving the dumping of nuclear waste in “minority neighborhoods” in North Carolina.
