Religious liberty does not cover child sexual abuse. This is something that Muslims coming to the United States need to remember. Regardless of what the Koran teaches about marrying children, it’s not legal in the U.S. and it’s not okay.
According to Action News 11 in Philadelphia, police are now trying to determine if a Philadelphia mosque is conducting weddings between adults and children. This is following a report of the ABC affiliate from a 17 year-old sexual assault victim who claims to have been married by the mosque at 14.
At 14, the victim was married to Rajmann Sanders, who was nearly twice her age. According to the victim, Sanders also began to molest her 10-year-old sister.
Sanders is now being charged with sexual offenses that range from rape and assault to ‘forcible compulsion.’
On Friday, police issued the mosque a search warrant and began to search the facility for evidence of child marriages. They also served a warrant on the home of a mosque leader. Thankfully, Sanders’ victims are now in the custody of the Department of Human Services.
The hadith claims that a 9-year-old, Aisha, was taken by the prophet, Muhammad, as his bride when she was 9. She took her dolls and toys to play with.
Thankfully, in 21st Century America, we call that child molestation and it’s a criminal offense.
