Pulpit & Pen is regularly accused of writing exaggerated clickbaiting headlines.** I have no doubt that someone saw the one above and disregarded it as so far-fetched that this article didn’t warrant a click. How I wish this headline was an exaggeration. It’s not. This week the US Senate voted on a Republican Bill that would have threatened prison time for doctors who don’t try saving the life of infants born alive during failed abortions. 60 votes were required to advance the bill. It garnered 53 votes, including three from swing-state Democratic senators. 44 senators voted against the bill. 100% of them were Democrats (including two independent senators who caucus with Democrats). Support for abortion is a part of the official Democratic Party platform. That Democrats would yet again vote to oppose a penalty for the brutal killing of babies came as a surprise to no one…except maybe SBC President JD Greear, who tweeted the following:
The Democratic party actively seeks to create an environment where babies can be murdered. Republicans generally do the opposite. Neither party is the official party of Jesus Christ or anything but…
Why in the world would a Christian of any degree of influence make the slightest attempt to move the conversation away from the political reality that the Democratic party is a party of God-hating pagans and wolves in sheep’s clothing?
That’s exactly what JD Greear did and he is the leader of this country’s largest Christian denomination. Lord help us. If you are a Southern Baptist, demand that your pastor give your church an explanation for any support he lends to this man.
(Oh, and in case you forgot, Greear’s church also cancels services at Christmastime. That’s another headline I wish was an exaggeration.)
