Popular Word of Faith huckster and senior “pastor” of Elevation Church, Steven Furtick, is no stranger to reading himself into the biblical text. Furtick is the king of narcissistic eisegesis–or narcigesis for short. Recently, at the aptly named Reckless Conference held at T.D. Jakes’ Potter’s House, Furtick twists Isaiah 49 and claims that he is the weapon and the sword formed against death and Hell. Of course, what the Scriptures really say is that Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection is what conquered death and Hell (Revelation 1:18), and it is His word that is the sword (Eph 6:17). This is nothing short of the heretical “little god” theology in that he believes it is inherent in us to have the power of God to speak our will into existence.
