New York’s first openly gay congressman, Sean Maloney, has decried the notion of “religious liberty” labeling ita “bogus term” designed to allow LGBTQQIP2SAA discrimination.
Maloney made the conspiratorial comments during an MSNBC interview with Nicole Wallace in which he was excited as could be. He expressed surprise that Gorsuch had voted the way he did, noting:
“We know that Neil Gorsuch is a supporter of so-called religious liberty, which is a bogus term — it is actually some sort of pretext for discrimination hiding behind the guise of religion. So, I’m still on the lookout for that from the author of this opinion.”
While the congressman was crowing over the victory, he urged supporters that they must not stand on the laurels of this decision, but rather must do more.
Not content with the court’s ruling, he also cited the need to pass the Equality Act, writing ” This is a historic day: a conservative-majority SCOTUS has affirmed LGBTQ employment protections. But our work is not done. It’s time to pass the Equality Act and ban all forms of anti-LGBTQ discrimination.”
