The heresy-peddling retail outlet for the Southern Baptist Convention, Lifeway ‘Christian’ Resources, has released a poll demonstrating a huge upswing in the percentage of mainline Protestant pastors who approve of sodomy-based marriages.
The survey demonstrates a surge from 32% approval for gay marriage in this group in 2010 up to 47% in 2020.
The study shows support for gay marriage by Presbyterian or Reformed at 49 percent, Methodist at 47 percent, Lutheran at 35 percent and Christian/Church of Christ pastors 20 percent. Baptists only approve of gay marriage at the rate of 3 percent and Pentecostal pastors 1 percent.
It may seem counterintuitive that Calvinists, who comprise Reformed and Presbyterian mainline denominations, are more likely to approve of gay marriage but that is what the Lifeway study demonstrates.
These categories (above) are taken from mainstream denominations that do not consider themselves ‘evangelical.’ It is worth noting that more liberal Calvinist and Reformed believers, like Russell Moore and Thomas Kidd, are increasingly distancing themselves from the ‘evangelical’ label like their mainline, gay-friendly peers.
Many view Reformed theology to be a bulwark against such cultural liberalism, but neither history nor the present bears that out.
The study also shows that white pastors are more likely to see nothing wrong with same-sex marriage (27%) than African American pastors (15%).
Those with a doctorate are more likely (27%) than those with a Master’s Degree (32%) are more likely to support same-sex marriage than pastors with a bachelor’s degree (9%), possibly demonstrating the liberalizing influence of colleges and seminaries.
The phone survey of 1,000 Protestant pastors was conducted Aug. 30 – Sept. 24, 2019. Comparisons were made to surveys with the same methodology conducted Aug. 29 – Sept. 11, 2018 and Oct. 7-14, 2010.
Evangelicalism needs to understand that the Reformed Resurgence has been co-opted by liberalism through outside dark money, like that given to The Gospel Coalition by James Riady or the ERLC by George Soros. We are starting to see the fruit of their labor.
Inside evangelicalism, hominterns are pushing a ‘gay eunuch’ movement absolving Same-Sex Attraction of sin (so long as homosexuals remain celibate), pushed by primarily Calvinist organizations like The Gospel Coalition which has a whole roster of homosexuals like Sam Allberry, Rachel Gilson, Rosaria Butterfield, Rebecca McLaughlin, and Jackie Hill Perry.
