Any “pro-life” position not tethered to a biblical ethic is little more than a political position. God’s word is unchanging. Political positions, along with politicians, change with the wind. Donald Trump is a politician. Despite being surrounded by bevy of Christian spiritual advisors, President Trump shared the following disturbing tweet on Saturday:
If your father was a rapist, Trump would have been okay with your mother killing you in the womb. This version of a “pro-life” position may fall in line with the ideology of Ronald Reagan and even Billy Graham but it does not fall in line with the Bible.
Babies conceived by rape and incest are made in the image of God as much as any other child. God knits the product of rape in his mother’s womb as carefully as he does the product of the marriage bed. Why should the lives of certain babies, who have done no wrong themselves, be allowed to be snuffed out? Do the hearts of these unwanted children beat just as true as wanted ones? In fact they do and for Donald Trump and for others to look the other way as they are slaughtered is inexcusable. Babies produced by rape and incest are among the most vulnerable of all humans. Surely pure religion is to do right by such children. Pro-life laws and politicians which do not look out for all preborn babies are not pro-life at all. Donald Trump, who is clearly not a bible-believing Christian, cannot be trusted to govern with a biblical pro-life ethic.
