“He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much.” Luke 16:10
What has happened to the Southern Baptist Convention? What is perhaps the United States’ last biblically faithful and conservative denomination is sliding precipitously towards ruin. It’s time to put a stop to this degradation. Why should any Christian give another dime to broadly support its programs?
As Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore boldly defies and oppressive federal government that is hellbent on recognizing, solemnizing, and normalizing the abomination that is homosexual activity, Southern Baptist Convention Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission President Russell Moore suggests the Justice should resign. Russell Moore’s six figure salary is paid by the tithes and offerings put in the plates at Southern Baptist Churches Across America.
Southern Baptist Convention President, Ronnie Floyd, models and advocates “CEO” leadership to thousands of preachers. The pulpit has become less about servant leadership and more about career advancement and fund-raising. Floyd’s leadership is merely a symptom of an ever more corrupt and worldly culture that makes little gods out of mega-preachers and little heavens out of mega-churches. The question posed to many a messenger is at the Southern Baptist Convention is “How many do you run?”
Formerly venerable ladies bible teacher Beth Moore claims revelation from God, warns against scoffers from within the church who would doubt her, and recommends the Montanist writings of Sarah Young to her fan base. LifeWay Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention makes thousands of dollars off book sales from both authors.
Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary enrolled a Muslim. The seminary president who allowed it went unpunished.
Popular mega-preacher, Johnny Hunt, who teaches discipleship seminars throughout the world, today praised Peter Lumpkins for comparing disgraced charlatan Ergun Caner to the prophet Elijah. Caner, amidst controversy over racist remarks and sexual misconduct, resigned his job as a Georgia Baptist College President. CB Scott, the man who refused to cover-up for Caner struggles to pay COBRA insurance in the wake of his own firing.
National Denominational leadership has failed. Southern Baptists, the time has come to run back to your God-ordained local church. Keep your money local. Give locally. Pray locally. Don’t give another dime to the Southern Baptist Cooperative Program which supports the misdeeds noted above. Faithful seminaries, mission boards, and missionaries can be supported directly. If your local church leadership refuses to end blanket national funding, you need to ask, “Who do they really serve?”
Younger brothers and sisters, tell your grandmothers and grandfathers about this tragic situation. Tell your moms and dads. They don’t read blogs. You do! Russell Moore and his band of bureaucrats live off of the faithful tithes that the older generation pays from their social security checks and 401(k)s. It’s up to you to spread the word.
You will answer to God one day for your stewardship.
