Mask-wearing Joel Osteen Joins Houston Protest March in Support of George Floyd

News Division

Lakewood Megachurch impastor Joel Osteen took to the streets of Houston on Tuesday to join the protest march in support of George Floyd, the man killed by police when an officer knelt on his neck for almost 10 minutes despite pleas that he couldn’t breathe. Osteen joined Floyd’s family at the event and started the march with a prayer.

When stopped for a comment, Osteen said in a video:

I came out to support the Floyd family. Tell them that we love them, that we grieve with them, that we care about them, we love them, that we stand with our black brothers and sisters, that we are all made in the image of God, and we’re just here to support him.

It’s an important time in our city. You know, we feel the pain. We’re all outraged, but I think we can turn anger into action, that we can do our part to love one another, to treat each other with respect and honor.

I don’t believe George’s death is going to be in vain. God knows how to take what was meant for harm and somehow bring good out of it, and this could be a turning point in our city, in our nation, and we can learn to love and accept each other in spite of our differences.

In another video, Osteen said “What we’re seeing is that we need to stand against injustice and stand with our black brothers and sisters.”

Osteen also joined “Blackout Tuesday” along when he posted in solidarity on his Facebook page.
