Trump Defends Religious Liberty! Justice Department Supports Christian Photographer!
Slavery is the act of demanding someone work for you without consent. Today, slavery of people based upon ethnicity has been outlawed in the United States, but the LGBTQ lobby is trying to enslave Christians, demanding that they provide for them labor without consent. And as usual, Trump just stood up for Christians and for liberty.
Chelsey Nelson owns a photography studio in Louisville and she had to sue her city because of their so-called “Fairness Ordinance,” which says that businesses cannot deny “customers” labor because of sexual orientation. It also forbids businesses from publishing communications suggesting such “discrimination.”
One wonders if the slave-holders in the South ever considered calling themselves “customers” in an attempt to hold onto their chattel.
Nelson desired to only provide wedding photography for marriages between monogamous heterosexual couples. The city said she had to provide her art-form for anybody who demanded it. Although whip lashes aren’t involved, fines and penalties are still given when someone tries to decline ‘service’ to anyone else based upon their conscience.
Trump’s Department of Justice just jumped in to defend the right of conscience.
On Thursday, the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division filed a Statement of Interest siding with Nelson, claiming that she should win her case because, “weddings are sacred rites in the religious realm and profoundly symbolic ceremonies in the secular one,” which is supported under the First Amendment.
The press release stated, “The First Amendment forbids the government from forcing someone to speak in a manner that violates individual conscience.”
It added, “The U.S. Department of Justice will continue to protect the right of all persons to exercise their constitutional right to speech and expression.”
