Utah GOP to Demand Mitt Romney Resign
Mitt Romney is the only Senator in U.S. history to vote for the impeachment conviction of a president in their own party. Romney, whose name will be as closely associated with sore-losership as Benedict Arnold’s is with treason, is now more welcome in the U.S. Senate than he is Utah and it seems that his constituents are giving him the boot.
Salt Lake City’s 2KUTV reports, “the Utah Republican Party has pending resolutions on Romney: one that expresses support for Trump’s acquittal, another that supports legislation to recall a U.S Senator and a third that calls for Romney to ‘immediately resign’ from office.”
The Utah GOP will likely vote on these resolutions on Saturday. They are expected to pass.
Trump attacked Romney after the vote, saying, “Mitt Romney is forever bitter that he will never be POTUS. He was too weak to beat the Democrats then so he’s joining them now. He’s now officially a member of the resistance & should be expelled from the @GOP.”
The people of Utah seem to be listening.
Ironically, Romney claimed that his Mormon faith compelled him to vote to convict the president of the non-high crimes and non-misdemeanors accused of him by House Democrats. Utah, which is 62% Mormon, also happens to be 67% pro-Trump. It’s too bad for Romney.
