Catholic Church in France to Remove ‘Gendered Terms,’ Mother and Father, From Baptism Certificates

What’s a church to do when transexuals and the gender-fluid want to bring their babies to be blessed by the Lord? If you’re the Catholic Church in France you accommodate them and removed “gendered titles” from baptism certificates.

According to Crux, the French Bishops’ Council for Canonical Question approved a measure that would remove the terms “mother” and “father” from baptism certificates so as to better accommodate parents who are confused or self-deceived regarding their gender.

Bishop Joseph de Metz-Noblat of Langres, president of the French bishops’ Council for Canonical Questions, said the change was more in accordance to gender-equality laws.

In a Dec. 13, 2018 letter to bishops, Metz-Noblat said the “ever-more-complex situation of families in France” had made compiling Catholic documents “sometimes difficult,” especially with baptisms.

The certificates will now simply say “Parent 1” and “Parent 2.”

Metz-Noblat added, “Children cannot be held responsible for the situation of their parents. This is why we are recommending you adopt this formulation, which seems more suited to our epoch.”
