Covington High Schooler Nicholas Sandmann was the target of off-the-charts levels of Leftist violence-mongering outrage after the mainstream media, led by CNN, outright lied about him and his fellow MAGA-Hat-Wearing students at March for Life in Washington in January of 2019.
Sandmann’s family fought back, suing CNN for $275 million. CNN was only one among the media outlets and celebrities slapped by lawsuits by the Sandmann family.
Today, reports are surfacing that CNN has agreed to a settlement for an undisclosed amount.
Trump famously labelled CNN as “fake news.” The cable news adjunct to the Democratic Party has certainly lived up to that name. And there are consequences.
“[CNN] really went after Nicholas with the idea that he was part of a mob that was attacking the Black Hebrew Israelites, yelling racist slurs at the Black Hebrew Israelites. Totally false,” said Sandmann attorney Lin Wood. “Now [if] you’ve seen the tape; if you took the time to look at the full context of what happened that day, Nicholas Sandmann did absolutely nothing wrong. He was, as I’ve said to others, he was the only adult in the room.”
The Sandmann family’s response to this crisis is instructive. First, it is important to be aware of the false spirituality that understands “Turn the Other Cheek” to apply to every possible adversarial situation, up to and including violent attacks (e.g., John Piper).
Christians must reject this false spirituality that posits that to be Christlike is to never fight back.
“A righteous man who falters before the wicked Is like a murky spring and a polluted well.” (Prov. 25:26, NKJV)
Christ taught that we should bear the brunt of personal insults without seeking revenge (Matt. 5:39).
But when evil lords go after the Bride of Christ, Jesus Himself set the example for how to respond (see AD 70).
Of course, that will look different for us because we’re not God and we can’t arrange for foreign armies to destroy the wicked.
But Sandmann’s response is one of many just and legitimate responses open to Christians who are victimized by Leftist Outrage Mobs.
How might this play out in the everyday life of an average Christian?
Let the insults of your enemies roll off your back. Grow thick skin. Don’t take it personally.
But instantly block crazy Leftists on social media once you become aware of them.
Instantly oust Social Justice Warriors from your on-or-offline social groups.
Instantly fire them from your business or company.
Make them pay when they go after your family by bringing every legal action under God’s good sun against them. Insure they are crippled so badly that they won’t even think of attempting such things again.
Support (financially and otherwise) those who are the victims of Social Justice Warriors and Leftist Mobs.
Be unafraid to speak the truth as God gives you opportunity.
Teach your children about what’s going on and how they can fight back as they get older. Get them out of public schools yesterday.
Do not falter before the wicked.
